KIN KAKU DEN was originally produced by Sakamoto Paper Industry in Ino, Kochi Prefecture, Japan. In 2018, the company closed its doors due to an aging workforce and aging equipment.
In 2024, YAMAMOTO PAPER took up the name and legacy of KIN KAKU DEN with the vision of bringing this remarkable paper back to life. After three years of development and five rounds of test papermaking, the new KIN KAKU DEN was finally completed in 2026.
Just as the original KIN KAKU DEN evolved to meet the needs of its time, we believe this new generation of paper can offer an answer to the expectations and possibilities that lie ahead for Japanese washi.
